Toyota Yaris, commonly known as Toyota Vitz in Bangladesh, currently starts from around Tk 6 lakh for older models and can reach approximately Tk 15 lakh for newer cars or higher-grade versions.
This generation is XP90 of Toyota Yaris, available from 2005 - 2011.
The representative 1.3L Toyota Yaris uses a 1,296cc 2SZ-FE engine producing 87 hp and 116 Nm. It is designed for smooth city driving rather than rapid acceleration, with 0–100 km/h taking roughly 12.5 seconds. The front brakes use ventilated discs and the rear brakes use drums, supported by ABS, Brake Assist and EBD. Braking performance is adequate for normal Bangladesh city and highway driving, although stopping distance depends on tyre condition, road surface, passenger load and brake condition.
A well-maintained 1.3L Toyota Yaris can deliver around 12–13 km/L in Dhaka city traffic, 16–18 km/L on highways and approximately 14–15 km/L combined in realistic Bangladesh driving. Heavy congestion, continuous AC use, frequent short trips, tyre pressure and driving style can reduce mileage. Toyota's Japanese test-cycle figure for the representative 1.3L FWD model was around 20 km/L, but Bangladesh road conditions naturally produce lower real-world results.
The second-generation Yaris/Vitz was offered in grades such as F, U, RS, I'll and various special editions, with 1.0L, 1.3L and 1.5L engines depending on the year and drivetrain. The F is the straightforward everyday option, while the U adds more comfort-oriented equipment and Smart Entry/Start features. RS versions have a sportier setup and appearance, while 1.5L versions provide stronger performance. For regular Dhaka commuting, the 1.3L FWD version offers a useful balance of fuel economy and performance.
Yes. The compact Toyota Yaris is particularly easy to use on Dhaka's narrow streets, congested roads and crowded parking areas. Its 3.8-metre body and approximately 4.4m turning radius make U-turns and tight parking much easier than with a larger sedan or SUV. The main limitation is its relatively low ground clearance, so you need to slow down over tall speed breakers and avoid deep potholes. It is best suited to paved city roads and highways rather than severely broken rural roads.
Yes. City driving is where the Toyota Yaris makes the most sense. Its compact body, light steering, CVT automatic transmission and economical 1.3L engine make it easy to handle through Dhaka traffic. Parking in shopping areas and narrow residential streets is considerably easier than with larger cars. In severe traffic with the AC running continuously, real mileage can fall toward 10–12 km/L, but a well-maintained Yaris remains economical for daily commuting.
Routine maintenance for an older Yaris is generally affordable because Toyota parts and compatible aftermarket components are widely available in Bangladesh. A basic oil-and-filter service can commonly cost around Tk 3,500–6,000, depending on oil and parts quality. A realistic yearly routine-maintenance budget is approximately Tk 15,000–30,000, excluding fuel, tyres, insurance and major repairs. For an older high-mileage example, keeping around Tk 30,000–50,000 annually as a repair reserve is sensible for suspension, brakes, battery, AC and other age-related work.
Check the engine, CVT, suspension, steering, brakes, AC and electrical systems carefully. During the test drive, make sure the CVT accelerates smoothly without shuddering, slipping or unusual noises. Inspect for oil leaks, overheating, smoke and abnormal engine sounds. Check the body for accident repairs, repainting, rust and chassis damage. Also inspect the suspension and wheel alignment because Bangladesh potholes can cause wear. Verify the odometer against available service records and inspect the tyres, battery and AC performance before making a decision.
The main disadvantages are limited rear-seat and luggage space, low ground clearance, basic interior equipment and modest 1.3L performance. The cabin is practical but not particularly spacious for five adults on long journeys. Older Yaris models also lack modern features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assistance. The low body can also scrape on poorly designed speed breakers, which are common on Bangladesh roads.
