Toyota Camry XLE Hybrid Expert Review

Design & Build Quality

The current Camry takes a more sophisticated approach to design than the previous generation. Rather than relying on excessive chrome or traditional executive-sedan cues, the body uses a low roofline, sharply defined surfaces and a wide stance to create a more modern silhouette.

The XLE is the elegant member of the lineup. Its 18-inch two-tone wheels, chrome window surrounds, dark metallic grille bar and premium LED lighting give it a noticeably more upscale character than the sport-focused SE and XSE.

The proportions remain unmistakably Camry: long bonnet, spacious cabin and a relatively long wheelbase. Yet the lower visual stance makes it look more dynamic than earlier generations.

At almost 4.92 metres long and 1.84 metres wide, it is a substantial car. That works beautifully on highways and gives the sedan excellent road presence, but parking in crowded Dhaka areas can be challenging.

Ground clearance of around 145 mm is another consideration. The car is perfectly manageable on normal roads, but steep ramps, large speed breakers and damaged streets require caution.

Overall, the XLE looks expensive without trying too hard. It is more elegant than aggressive, which suits the Camry's comfort-oriented character perfectly.

The XLE's cabin is where the current Camry makes its strongest argument for being a premium sedan rather than simply a practical family car.

The dashboard is clean and horizontal, with the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 12.3-inch multimedia display creating a distinctly modern environment. Unlike older Camrys, there is little visual clutter. Controls are clearly positioned and the driving area feels considerably more contemporary.

XLE models use leather-and-microfiber-trimmed seats, with multi-stage heating as standard and ventilation available. The driver's position can also be upgraded with memory functions and other comfort features depending on package.

Rear passengers retain the spaciousness expected from a Camry. Legroom is generous, the rear centre armrest adds comfort and dedicated rear ventilation makes the cabin better suited to Bangladesh's climate.

The biggest improvement is technology. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Qi charging, multiple USB ports and large high-resolution displays make the car feel properly current rather than simply updated.

Toyota has also kept the interface relatively intuitive, avoiding the excessive touchscreen dependency found in some competitors.

For family use or executive travel, the XLE cabin is easily the most sophisticated interior in the Camry lineage covered here.

Equipment is one of the XLE's major strengths.

The standard package already includes the 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system, six speakers, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather/microfiber heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

Additional packages can bring ventilated seats, heated steering, panoramic roof, Head-Up Display, premium JBL audio, memory functions and enhanced camera systems.

Connected services also move the car beyond conventional infotainment. Toyota offers Remote Connect, Safety Connect, Service Connect, Drive Connect and Wi-Fi Connect depending on subscription and market availability.

For Bangladesh, some connected features may not operate exactly as they do in the U.S., so they should not be treated as guaranteed local functionality.

The core hardware, however, remains excellent.

The combination of large displays, wireless smartphone integration, comfortable seats, climate control, charging options and advanced driver assistance gives the XLE a genuinely modern equipment package.

Safety & Driver Assistance

The current Camry represents a massive safety evolution from the XV40 and XV50.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard, bringing Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert and Automatic High Beams.

XLE additionally receives Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Alert as standard equipment.

This means the car can actively assist during highway driving, warn about vehicles approaching from blind spots and help prevent certain forward collisions.

The available Panoramic View Monitor provides another major advantage when manoeuvring the large sedan in tight spaces. A Head-Up Display can also place key information directly in the driver's line of sight.

For Bangladesh, these systems are especially useful because congested traffic creates constant lane changes, motorcycles and close vehicle spacing.

The important caveat is calibration. A reconditioned vehicle with front-end accident repairs should have its radar and camera systems professionally checked.

As a safety package, however, the current XLE is in another league compared with the older Camrys.

The current Camry has become surprisingly quick without sacrificing its traditional smoothness.

The 2.5L hybrid produces 225 HP in FWD form, enough to make acceleration brisk rather than merely adequate. Electric assistance provides immediate low-speed response, while the Atkinson-cycle engine takes over efficiently as speed rises.

The e-CVT keeps the power delivery seamless. There are no conventional gear changes interrupting acceleration, which makes the car particularly relaxing in stop-and-go traffic.

Four drive modes—Normal, Eco, Sport and EV—allow the driver to change the character of the powertrain. Toyota describes EV mode as providing electric-only driving at low speeds for short distances.

The TNGA GA-K platform also gives the Camry better body control than its older predecessors. Steering feels more precise, while the lower centre of gravity helps the car remain composed through corners.

Ride quality remains the priority. The XLE's 18-inch wheels are larger than the LE's, but the suspension still delivers a comfortable ride.

For Bangladesh, the combination is particularly effective: smooth electric-assisted response in traffic, strong acceleration when needed and excellent efficiency during longer journeys.
