Yaris G Hybrid's driving experience is all about smoothness. Toyota has deliberately avoided making the car feel complicated. Press the accelerator and the electric motor provides immediate response; the petrol engine joins when necessary; the e-CVT manages the whole process without conventional gear changes.
The 1.5L M15A-FXE engine produces 91 PS and 120 Nm, while the hybrid system brings total system output to 116 PS in the current specification. The electric motor can provide up to approximately 185 Nm of torque, which explains why the car feels more responsive from a standstill than the engine's horsepower figure might suggest.
In Dhaka, this is exactly the sort of drivetrain that makes sense. Traffic crawls, stops and starts constantly. The Yaris can use electric assistance during low-speed operation and recover energy during braking. That makes the hybrid system far more useful here than it would be on a motorway where the car spends most of its time cruising.
The steering is light, the dimensions are compact and the turning radius is excellent. U-turns, parking and navigating narrow streets are therefore easy.
On highways, the Yaris G Hybrid is composed enough for normal cruising and overtaking, but it is not a performance hatchback. Its mission is efficiency, comfort and predictability.
The biggest driving limitation in Bangladesh is ground clearance. At around 145 mm on the FWD version, aggressive speed breakers and potholes need respect.
Otherwise, the G Hybrid is exactly what a modern city car should be: quiet, smooth, efficient and easy.
