Toyota Voxy 1st Gen (2001-2007)

This generation is R60 of Toyota Voxy, available from 2001 - 2007.

The Toyota Voxy uses a 1,998cc 1AZ-FSE four-cylinder petrol engine producing 155 hp and 192 Nm in the later first-generation configuration. It has enough power to move the eight-seat MPV comfortably, although it is not designed as a performance vehicle. The 0–100 km/h time is approximately 11 seconds, depending on load and road conditions.

Toyota Voxy 2001-2007 can realistically deliver around 7–8 km/L in city driving, 9 km/L combined and 11–12 km/L on highways in Bangladesh. Dhaka traffic, frequent AC use, passenger load and CNG conversion can change the actual figure considerably.

Yes. The Voxy's biggest strength is its eight-seat interior and flexible three-row cabin. The sliding rear doors make entering and leaving easier in tight parking spaces, while the tall roof provides useful headroom. The second and third rows are much more practical for family travel than a normal sedan. It is particularly useful for larger families, airport trips and long-distance travel where carrying several passengers and luggage is important.

Voxy works well on Dhaka's paved roads, major highways and normal urban streets, but its 155mm ground clearance requires care around large speed breakers and deep potholes. Its long body and 5.5m turning radius also make it less convenient than a small hatchback in very narrow streets. On highways, its long wheelbase and substantial body provide a stable and comfortable driving experience.

It is comfortable in Dhaka traffic, but it is not particularly economical there. The 2.0L petrol engine, large body and eight-seat MPV weight mean city fuel consumption is considerably higher than a small Toyota Vitz or Axio. The advantages are excellent visibility, comfortable seating, automatic transmission and sliding doors. Parking requires more space, and manoeuvring in extremely narrow lanes is more difficult because of the Voxy's size.

A properly maintained Voxy generally has reasonable routine servicing costs, but an older first-generation example can require significantly more money for age-related repairs. A normal oil and filter service can be around ৳5,000–8,000, depending on lubricant and parts. A sensible annual maintenance reserve is approximately ৳35,000–70,000, excluding major transmission, AC or suspension repairs. Older MPVs can require spending on suspension components, sliding-door mechanisms, AC systems, engine sensors and CVT-related components.

Check the 1AZ-FSE engine, CVT transmission, cooling system, AC, suspension, brakes, sliding doors and electrical equipment carefully. Pay particular attention to CVT operation because hesitation, shuddering or abnormal noise can indicate expensive problems. Check for engine oil leaks, overheating, rough idle and warning lights. Inspect the chassis for accident repairs and rust. Test both sliding doors repeatedly, check all three seating rows and confirm that the rear AC works properly. Also inspect tyres, suspension bushes and underbody components.
