Toyota TownAce Truck

1,496cc 2NR-VE petrol engine produces 97 PS and 134 Nm, so the TownAce Truck is designed more for practical commercial work than fast acceleration. The estimated 0–100 km/h time is around 15–17 seconds. It uses front ventilated disc brakes and rear drum brakes, supported by ABS and EBD, while VSC and TRC provide additional stability control.

Toyota TownAce Truck can realistically return around 7–9 km/L in city driving, 10–12 km/L on highways and approximately 8–10 km/L combined in Bangladesh. Heavy cargo, Dhaka traffic, frequent stops, air-conditioning and aggressive acceleration can reduce mileage.

Yes, TownAce is available in all 3 conditions mostly, so you can find your preferred condition within budget.

TownAce Truck is available in 2WD and 4WD, with 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic configurations. A 2WD automatic is convenient for normal urban commercial work, while a 5-speed manual is useful for drivers prioritising simplicity and control. The 4WD version is more appropriate if you regularly operate on muddy, unpaved or difficult rural roads.

Yes. The 190mm ground clearance, compact dimensions, rear-wheel-drive layout and relatively small 4.9m turning radius make it practical for Bangladesh's urban and semi-urban roads. It is particularly useful for delivery work around Dhaka and other cities where larger trucks can be difficult to manoeuvre. The suspension and commercial chassis are designed for carrying loads, although heavily damaged roads can still produce a firm ride.

Yes. Its compact 4.295-metre length and 1.675-metre width make it easier to operate in crowded streets, markets and narrow commercial areas than a larger pickup. Power steering and the small turning radius are particularly useful in Dhaka. The main limitation is performance: with only 97 PS, acceleration becomes noticeably slower when the cargo bed is heavily loaded.

Routine maintenance is generally manageable because the 1.5L 2NR-VE is a relatively simple naturally aspirated Toyota engine. A reasonable Bangladesh budget is around ৳15,000–30,000 per year for normal servicing, excluding fuel, tyres and major repairs. Older or heavily used commercial examples can require more for suspension components, brakes, battery, clutch or transmission servicing. Actual cost depends heavily on mileage and workload.

Check the auction sheet, chassis number, accident history, mileage, engine condition, transmission, suspension, steering, brakes, AC, electrical system and cargo-bed condition. Pay particular attention to signs of commercial overloading, chassis repairs, rust, uneven tyre wear and suspension damage. For an automatic truck, inspect transmission shifting carefully during both cold and fully warmed-up driving.

The main disadvantages are modest 97 PS performance, basic cabin equipment, four-speed automatic transmission and limited factory infotainment. The truck also has only two seats and a relatively compact 800kg maximum payload in 2WD versions. It is designed primarily as a practical commercial vehicle, so it does not provide the comfort, refinement or technology of a passenger SUV or modern pickup.
