Toyota Sienta 2nd Gen (2015-2022)

This generation is XP170 of Toyota Sienta, available from 2015 - 2022.

The common 1.5L petrol Sienta produces 109 hp and 136 Nm with the 2NR-FKE engine, while some 1.5L versions use the 1NZ-FE producing 103 hp and 132 Nm. The hybrid petrol engine produces 74 hp and 111 Nm, with the electric motor providing additional propulsion.

Acceleration to 100 km/h is roughly 12–13 seconds, depending on powertrain and test conditions. The braking system uses disc brakes with ABS, EBD and Brake Assist, providing predictable braking for normal city and highway driving.

For real Bangladesh driving, expect approximately 8–10 km/L in heavy Dhaka city traffic and 13–15 km/L on highways from petrol models. Hybrid versions can generally deliver around 14–17 km/L in city use and 19–22 km/L on highways when the hybrid battery and powertrain are healthy.

main Japanese-market grades include X, G and G Cuero, alongside their hybrid equivalents. X is the simpler specification, G adds more convenience and equipment, while G Cuero is positioned toward the more premium end. Toyota also introduced the five-seat Funbase configuration after the facelift.

For family use, a well-equipped G or G Cuero can provide useful comfort features, while a Hybrid X can make sense if fuel economy is the priority.

Sienta works particularly well on Dhaka city roads, paved highways and normal urban roads. Its compact width and approximately 5.2-metre turning radius make it easier to manoeuvre through congested areas than a larger seven-seat MPV.

Yes. The combination of a compact body, CVT, light steering, good visibility and sliding rear doors makes the Sienta very practical for Dhaka. The hybrid is especially useful in stop-and-go traffic because its powertrain can operate electrically at low speeds and reduce fuel consumption.

The sliding doors are also extremely useful when parking in narrow spaces or when passengers need to enter and exit beside other vehicles.

A properly maintained Sienta is generally manageable to service in Bangladesh because Toyota parts and experienced mechanics are widely available. A reasonable routine-maintenance budget is approximately ৳15,000–25,000 per year, excluding fuel, insurance, tyres and major repairs.

Check the engine, CVT/e-CVT, hybrid battery where applicable, suspension, brakes, AC, steering, sliding doors and electrical equipment.

Also inspect the chassis for accident repairs, check the body for repainting or replacement panels, look for oil or coolant leaks and confirm that there are no dashboard warning lights.

For a Japanese reconditioned Sienta, checking the auction history and auction grade is particularly useful. On a hybrid, have the battery system professionally scanned before completing the purchase.

The biggest disadvantages are low ground clearance, modest 1.5L performance and limited third-row space for adults. The interior and infotainment technology also feel dated compared with newer MPVs.

The second-generation Sienta generally lacks modern features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-centering, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on typical JDM specifications. Older imported examples can also have ageing suspension, battery and electrical components.
