Toyota Rush 1st Gen (2006-2017)

This generation is J200 of Toyota Rush, available from 2006 - 2017.

The first-generation Toyota Rush uses a 1,495cc 3SZ-VE engine producing 109 PS and 141 Nm. With the 4-speed automatic, 0–100 km/h takes approximately 12.5–13.5 seconds, depending on vehicle condition, load and road conditions. It uses ventilated disc brakes at the front and leading-trailing drum brakes at the rear. ABS and EBD are available on equipped versions.

A healthy 1.5L Toyota Rush generally returns around 8–10 km/L in Dhaka city traffic, 12–14 km/L on highways and approximately 10–12 km/L combined. Heavy traffic, frequent air-conditioning use, passengers, tyre pressure and driving style can reduce city mileage further. The first-generation Rush was offered in grades such as X, G and G L Package, with special editions such as X Smart Edition appearing during its production. G generally added equipment such as alloy wheels, rear spoiler, better interior trim and steering-wheel controls. G L Package added more premium equipment including key-free entry, upgraded seats and projector/discharge headlights. The X is suitable if you want a simpler, lower-cost Rush, while G is a good middle ground for everyday use. G L Package is more suitable if you want additional comfort and equipment.

Yes. The first-generation Rush has around 200mm ground clearance, a compact 1695mm body width and a rugged SUV chassis, making it comfortable on many roads where low sedans struggle. It handles speed breakers, broken pavement and uneven rural roads better than most ordinary sedans. The RWD layout also gives it a useful rear-driven character, while 4WD versions provide additional traction on slippery surfaces. On severely damaged roads, however, suspension condition and tyre quality matter enormously, especially on an older 2006–2010 vehicle. Toyota's period specifications list approximately 180–200mm clearance depending on drivetrain and specification.

It is reasonably easy to use in Dhaka because the Rush is relatively narrow, upright and compact for an SUV. The approximately 4.9–5.0 metre turning radius helps with U-turns and tight streets. The high seating position also gives good visibility over traffic. The downside is fuel consumption: expect roughly 8–10 km/L in heavy city traffic, especially with AC running continuously. The 1.5L engine is adequate for normal commuting, but acceleration becomes noticeably slower when the car is full of passengers.

For a properly maintained Rush, a normal oil-and-filter service can typically be around ৳4,000–7,000, depending on lubricant, filters and workshop. A realistic routine maintenance budget is approximately ৳15,000–30,000 per year, excluding tyres, insurance and major repairs. Because these vehicles are now relatively old, keeping around ৳30,000–50,000 per year available for suspension components, brakes, battery, cooling-system work and unexpected repairs is sensible. Parts availability is generally good, but the condition of an individual 2006–2017 vehicle can make a much larger difference to ownership cost than the model itself.

Check the 3SZ-VE engine, automatic transmission, cooling system, suspension, steering, brakes and AC carefully. Inspect the chassis and underbody for accident repairs, corrosion and structural damage. Check for engine oil leaks, overheating, unusual engine noise and transmission hesitation. Test the 4-speed automatic through every gear and make sure reverse engages smoothly. Inspect the 4WD system carefully if you are considering a 4WD unit. Also check the AC compressor, electrical equipment, power windows, lights, airbags, ABS warning light, tyres and wheel alignment. A diagnostic scan and independent mechanical inspection are worthwhile before purchase.

The biggest disadvantages are slow acceleration, modest fuel economy and an outdated four-speed automatic transmission. The 1.5L engine is dependable but does not provide strong performance when the vehicle is loaded. Interior technology is also basic compared with newer SUVs, and factory smartphone connectivity is limited. Safety equipment varies significantly by year and grade, while modern systems such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance are absent. At this age, condition is also a major concern because poorly maintained suspension, AC systems and transmissions can become expensive.
