Toyota Prius Alpha S Specifications

The 1.8L 2ZR-FXE hybrid system produces approximately 136 PS combined system output, with the petrol engine producing 99 PS and 142 Nm and the electric motor producing up to 82 PS and 207 Nm. 0–100 km/h takes roughly 10.5–11 seconds depending on vehicle condition and test conditions. The late S uses ventilated disc brakes at the front and disc brakes at the rear, with ABS, EBD and Brake Assist. Toyota does not publish a verified factory 0–100 km/h stopping-distance figure, so a specific brake-distance number should not be presented as an official Prius Alpha S figure.

A healthy Prius Alpha S can realistically deliver approximately 14–17 km/L in Dhaka-style city driving, 19–22 km/L on highways and around 16–19 km/L combined. Heavy traffic, frequent AC use, tyre pressure, hybrid battery health and driving style have a major impact. Toyota's final S has an official WLTC rating of 20.7 km/L, including 19.5 km/L city and 20.8 km/L highway testing, but those figures should not be treated as Bangladesh real-world mileage.

The Prius Alpha was offered as an S, S L Selection, S Touring Selection, G and G Touring Selection, along with special versions such as S Tune Black II and S Touring Selection GR Sport. Both 5-seat and 7-seat configurations were available. The ordinary S is suited to buyers prioritising value and practicality; S Touring is aimed at buyers wanting larger wheels and sportier styling; G grades add more premium equipment.

Yes, provided most driving is on paved roads. Its approximately 145 mm ground clearance is manageable for normal Dhaka roads but requires caution around large speed breakers, potholes, broken asphalt and steep ramps. The long wheelbase provides good highway stability, while the hybrid drivetrain works particularly well in stop-and-go traffic. It is less suitable for regularly driving through severely damaged or unpaved roads.

It uses a CVT transmission and the engine size is 1,800 cc.

Yes. The hybrid system is particularly useful in Dhaka traffic, where frequent braking and low-speed crawling allow the electric motor and regenerative braking system to work effectively. The e-CVT keeps acceleration smooth and eliminates conventional gear changes. Heavy congestion and continuous AC operation will reduce fuel economy, but the Alpha remains an economical family vehicle for daily urban driving.

For a healthy car, a realistic routine-maintenance budget is around ৳15,000–30,000 per year, excluding fuel, insurance and major repairs. A regular engine-oil and filter service can commonly cost approximately ৳4,000–7,000, depending on oil and workshop. Because most Prius Alpha S cars in Bangladesh are now older used vehicles, keeping a ৳30,000–60,000 annual repair reserve is sensible for suspension, brakes, 12V battery, cooling components and unexpected hybrid-system work.

Check the auction sheet, chassis history, mileage, accident history and hybrid-battery health first. Then inspect the engine, inverter, hybrid cooling system, e-CVT, suspension, steering, brakes, AC, electrical systems and underbody. Scan the vehicle for stored hybrid-system fault codes. For the seven-seat version, check the third-row mechanism and folding system carefully. Also inspect for flood damage, warning lights, uneven battery performance and unusual battery-fan noise during a proper test drive.

The main disadvantages are low ground clearance, limited third-row luggage space, older infotainment technology and modest acceleration when the vehicle is fully loaded. The third row is useful for children and shorter trips but is not ideal for seven large adults on long journeys. Because the latest Alpha is already several years old, hybrid-battery condition and previous maintenance history are particularly important.
