Current Bangladesh used-market price for a Toyota Platz is approximately Tk 4 lakh–Tk 11 lakh.
The 1.5L Toyota Platz uses the 1NZ-FE 1,496cc four-cylinder engine, producing approximately 110 PS and 143 Nm. The 4-speed automatic version is designed for smooth everyday driving rather than aggressive performance. A realistic 0–100 km/h time is approximately 10.5 seconds. The braking system uses ventilated front discs and rear drums, with ABS, Brake Assist and EBD on the documented higher-grade 1.5L specification.
A properly maintained 1.5L Toyota Platz can realistically return around 10 km/L in city traffic, 14 km/L on highways and approximately 12 km/L combined in Bangladesh. Heavy Dhaka congestion, frequent AC use, old engine components, poor tyre pressure and CNG conversion can reduce the actual figure. Toyota's Japanese catalogue figures are higher than what should realistically be expected on Bangladesh roads, so CarHub's Bangladesh mileage figures should be treated as real-world targets rather than laboratory ratings. Toyota's historical catalogue lists the Platz generation at approximately 16.6–21.5 km/L depending on engine and configuration under Japanese test methods.
The Platz was offered with 1.0L, 1.3L and 1.5L engines. The 1.0L uses the 1SZ-FE and produces about 70 PS, while the 1.3L 2NZ-FE produces around 87–88 PS. The 1.5L 1NZ-FE produces around 109–110 PS and 143 Nm.
For Bangladesh, the 1.0L is adequate for economical city driving, while the 1.5L provides substantially stronger performance. The 1.3L sits between them and was also used in full-time 4WD versions.
The Toyota Platz is reasonably suitable for Dhaka city roads and normal paved highways, especially because its compact dimensions make it easy to manoeuvre and park. Its sedan body provides a useful boot while remaining relatively small.
However, the car is now more than two decades old. Suspension condition is therefore extremely important. A worn Platz can feel uncomfortable over Bangladesh's speed breakers, potholes and broken roads. It should be driven slowly over large concrete speed breakers and deep potholes. Areas with consistently poor roads are less suitable for an old low-slung sedan.
Yes. The compact body, power steering, automatic transmission and relatively small turning circle make the Platz easy to use in Dhaka traffic. The 1.0L is economical but slow, while the 1.5L provides noticeably better acceleration when merging or overtaking.
The biggest issue today is not the basic design but age. Air-conditioning performance, suspension condition, engine mounts, transmission behaviour and electrical systems should all be checked carefully before buying.
A realistic routine-maintenance budget for a healthy Toyota Platz is approximately Tk 15,000–30,000 per year, excluding fuel, insurance and major repairs. Engine oil and filter servicing can commonly fall around Tk 4,000–7,000, depending on oil and workshop.
However, buyers should keep a larger reserve because these cars are now old. Suspension bushes, shock absorbers, engine mounts, AC components, battery, tyres, wheel bearings and electrical components may require replacement. The 1NZ-FE and other Toyota engines are mechanically simple, but the age of the vehicle means condition is more important than the Toyota badge alone.
Before buying a used Toyota Platz in Bangladesh, inspect the engine, transmission, AC, suspension, brakes, steering, electrical system and chassis. Start the engine cold and check for smoke, excessive vibration or abnormal sounds.
During the test drive, check automatic gear changes, braking, steering alignment and suspension noise. Inspect for accident repairs, welding, rust and uneven body-panel gaps. Check the condition of the radiator, engine cooling system and AC compressor.
Also verify the chassis number, engine number, registration documents, tax token, fitness and actual engine capacity. This is particularly important because some Bangladesh listings have modified engines or mismatched engine-capacity descriptions.
The main disadvantages are its age, dated four-speed automatic transmission, basic interior and lack of modern safety technology. There is no adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping, blind-spot monitoring or modern smartphone integration.
The bigger practical issue in Bangladesh is the condition of individual cars. A 20-plus-year-old vehicle may have already had engine work, suspension replacement, repainting, CNG conversion or electrical modifications. Therefore, two Toyota Platz cars with the same model year can have completely different ownership costs.
