Exterior

The Toyota Innova Crysta looks less like a humble family MPV and more like something that has been promoted to executive transport. It is big, upright and deliberately imposing, with a wide grille, sharp headlights and a tall body that gives it considerable road presence. At 4,735mm long and 1,830mm wide, the Crysta is not shy about occupying road space. In Bangladesh, that is both an advantage and a warning. Other traffic tends to notice a large Innova, but Dhaka's narrow lanes, illegally parked cars and enthusiastic rickshaw manoeuvres can make its dimensions feel substantial. The design is particularly successful from the side. The long wheelbase and relatively high roof create the classic MPV silhouette while retaining a premium appearance. Higher grades add larger alloy wheels, chrome detailing and more sophisticated lighting equipment. The Crysta's ground clearance is useful for Bangladesh. Around 178mm gives it considerably more freedom over ordinary speed breakers and broken surfaces than a low sedan, although it remains a road-focused MPV rather than an off-roader. Toyota has also avoided making the design excessively complicated. It looks expensive without becoming ridiculous, and that matters for a vehicle expected to remain attractive for many years. The only obvious downside is size. Parking a Crysta in a crowded Dhaka shopping centre can occasionally feel like docking a ferry. Otherwise, the exterior successfully combines family practicality with executive presence.

Interior

The Innova Crysta's interior is fundamentally about one thing: moving people comfortably.

The dashboard is wider and more sophisticated than the old Innova, with a higher driving position and substantially improved cabin quality. Depending on grade, buyers get leather upholstery, touchscreen infotainment, automatic climate control, captain-style second-row seating and additional convenience equipment. The second row is where the Crysta really shines. The 7-seat configuration provides individual captain seats with excellent legroom, while the 8-seat layout prioritises passenger capacity with a second-row bench. The third row is surprisingly usable for an MPV of this size. It is not limousine territory, but adults can occupy it without feeling like they have been sentenced to the luggage compartment. Bangladesh's climate also highlights one of the Crysta's most useful features: rear air-conditioning. A large three-row cabin becomes considerably more pleasant when cool air reaches passengers in the back rather than waiting for physics to eventually do the job. Storage is generally practical, and Toyota's controls are straightforward rather than unnecessarily complicated. There are weaknesses. Some lower grades feel surprisingly ordinary for such an expensive vehicle, while the dashboard design and infotainment technology have aged compared with newer SUVs and MPVs. But the fundamental job is done brilliantly. The Crysta provides space, visibility, comfortable seating and a commanding driving position. For a Bangladeshi family travelling long distances, that practicality is more valuable than a dashboard full of fashionable gadgets.

Features

The Innova Crysta does not try to compete with luxury cars by throwing every possible electronic toy at the driver. Instead, its strongest features are the ones that make a large family vehicle easier to live with.

Depending on grade and model year, equipment includes touchscreen infotainment, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, cruise control, rear parking sensors, rear camera, automatic climate control and smart-entry features.

Higher grades add more sophisticated equipment, including premium upholstery, powered driver's seating, larger alloy wheels, automatic LED lighting and additional parking assistance.

For Bangladesh, the rear air-conditioning system deserves particular attention. Seven or eight people inside a large MPV under Dhaka's summer sun is an excellent test of any AC system, and dedicated rear ventilation makes a significant difference.

The newer Crysta specification also adds useful features such as wireless phone charging and TPMS.

However, the technology is no longer cutting-edge. There is no comprehensive Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite in the current Crysta specification comparable to the newer Innova Zenix. Buyers expecting adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assistance will find the Crysta comparatively old-school.

That is not necessarily a problem for everyone.

The Crysta's appeal is mechanical confidence, comfort and practicality rather than technological theatre.

If your priorities are a reliable diesel engine, spacious seating, useful infotainment, powerful AC and long-distance comfort, the feature package remains perfectly sensible.

Safety

The Innova Crysta has a strong traditional safety package, although its advanced driver-assistance technology is now behind newer Toyota models. Core equipment includes ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, multiple airbags, ISOFIX mounts, seat-belt warnings and child safety locks. Higher specifications can provide seven airbags, while parking sensors and reverse cameras improve low-speed manoeuvring. The Crysta's physical size also contributes to its road presence. The high driving position gives the driver excellent visibility over surrounding traffic, which is particularly useful in Bangladesh where motorcycles, CNGs, rickshaws and pedestrians have an unfortunate habit of appearing from unexpected directions. The robust chassis and suspension are designed to tolerate significant passenger and luggage loads, another important consideration for family travel. But there is a major distinction between conventional safety and modern ADAS. The current Crysta does not provide the comprehensive suite of forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and blind-spot monitoring found on newer vehicles such as the Zenix. That means the driver remains much more responsible for detecting hazards. For Bangladesh driving, that is not necessarily unusual. Defensive driving remains essential regardless of how many electronic systems a car has. The Crysta therefore offers solid fundamental safety equipment and a reassuringly substantial vehicle structure, but buyers prioritising the latest active-safety technology should look beyond the Crysta.

Driving Experience

The Innova Crysta's driving character is dominated by its 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine. With 150 PS and 343 Nm, it is not a sports car pretending to be an MPV; it is a torque-heavy family machine designed to move people without drama. The 343 Nm arrives low in the rev range, which is exactly what you want in Bangladesh. Pulling away from a junction with seven passengers aboard does not require heroic throttle inputs. The engine simply digs in and moves the vehicle forward. The 5-speed manual gearbox is old-school compared with modern automatics, but it is straightforward and well matched to the diesel's torque. Independent owner reports show the real-world fuel economy is heavily dependent on traffic and driving style. Around 10–12 km/L in city conditions and 14–16 km/L on highways is a realistic target. Some owners achieve more under favourable conditions, while heavy congestion can push consumption lower. On highways, the Crysta makes much more sense. The long wheelbase gives it excellent stability, the suspension absorbs poor surfaces well and the torque makes overtaking relatively effortless. The downside is noise. The diesel is refined enough at normal speeds but becomes noticeably louder when worked hard. In Dhaka, its size is the main challenge. In Chattogram-to-Dhaka highway travel, family road trips and long-distance journeys, it becomes one of the Crysta's biggest strengths.

Variants

The Innova Crysta has been sold in several grades and powertrain combinations over its life, so Bangladesh buyers need to identify the exact model year and specification before comparing prices. The current Indian Crysta uses the 2.4-litre diesel with a 5-speed manual transmission and is offered in GX, GX+, VX and ZX grades. Seven- and eight-seat layouts are available depending on grade. GX is the practical entry point. It provides the core Crysta experience without loading the price with luxury equipment. GX+ adds useful convenience and equipment, making it more attractive for family buyers who want additional comfort without moving to the most expensive grade. VX is positioned further upmarket, with more premium cabin equipment and additional convenience features. ZX sits at the top and focuses on a more luxurious seven-seat experience. Older Crysta generations also had automatic versions, including the 2.4-litre diesel paired with a 6-speed automatic, making those imported used/reconditioned cars particularly interesting to Bangladesh buyers. Toyota's earlier specification confirms the 2.4 diesel automatic configuration and its 360 Nm torque output. That distinction matters when buying a Bangladesh-market used Crysta: a 2018 2.4 AT and a current 2.4 MT are not mechanically identical. Overall, the Crysta remains a spacious, durable and torque-rich family MPV. Its strongest qualities are comfort, practicality, reliability and highway ability, while its weakest areas are modern ADAS technology and city manoeuvrability.
