Exterior

Futuristic Without Becoming Completely Ridiculous

The bZ4X looks like Toyota decided that its electric SUV should be recognisable from across a car park without resembling a washing machine.

The result is a sharp, angular crossover with a deliberately aerodynamic shape. There is no conventional grille because there is no engine radiator demanding one. Instead, the front is sealed and sculpted around aerodynamic efficiency.

At 4,690 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,650 mm tall, the bZ4X is considerably larger than an Axio or Corolla. It has the road presence of a proper SUV without becoming enormous.

The black body cladding around the wheel arches gives it a slightly rugged appearance, while the narrow LED lighting creates a modern face. The rear is equally distinctive, with slim lamps stretching across the tailgate area.

The proportions are one of the car's best design characteristics.

The long 2,850 mm wheelbase creates a substantial passenger compartment without making the roof excessively tall. The battery is positioned underneath the cabin, keeping the centre of gravity low.

There is also a practical advantage to the crossover shape in Bangladesh.

The 180 mm ground clearance gives you more confidence over ordinary speed breakers and broken surfaces than a low sedan.

However, the 1.86-metre width deserves respect in Dhaka.

Narrow roads, tight parking spaces and badly positioned rickshaws can make the bZ4X feel considerably larger than its photographs suggest.

It is also visually quite different from traditional Toyota models.

Some will love that.

Others will wonder what happened to the Corolla.

Personally, the design makes sense because the bZ4X looks like an EV without resorting to science-fiction nonsense.

Interior

Quiet, Spacious And Properly Modern

The first thing you notice inside a bZ4X is not the screen.

It is the silence.

There is no petrol engine idling, no vibration through the steering wheel and no gear changes. Pull away and the car simply glides forward.

The cabin has been designed around this quietness.

The long wheelbase creates generous passenger space, while the flat battery floor helps create a more open cabin. Rear passengers receive good legroom, and the five-seat arrangement works well for family use.

The dashboard is modern without being excessively complicated. Depending on specification, the large central touchscreen dominates the cabin, while the driver gets a separate digital instrument display positioned relatively high.

The rotary electronic gear selector is compact and unusual at first, but quickly becomes easy to use.

Storage is practical, with cup holders, console storage and open trays. The rear seats fold to create a much more useful cargo area.

Higher grades can add premium upholstery, panoramic roof equipment, digital mirrors and additional comfort features.

Air-conditioning is another strong point, especially in Bangladesh. The electric powertrain allows climate control without requiring a petrol engine to remain running.

The biggest interior weakness is that some of the materials do not always feel as expensive as the car's price suggests.

You are paying for the EV platform, battery and technology, not simply a leather-covered luxury lounge.

Still, the bZ4X's greatest interior feature is something no specification sheet can fully capture.

Silence.

In Dhaka traffic, where the outside world already provides enough noise for three cars, that silence is extraordinarily welcome.

Features

This Is Where The bZ4X Earns Its Price

The bZ4X is loaded with technology.

Depending on grade and specification, you can get a large touchscreen infotainment system, wireless smartphone integration, wireless charging, digital instrumentation, smart key access, power tailgate, panoramic moonroof, digital rear-view mirror and connected services.

But the really interesting equipment is the technology underneath the skin.

Toyota Safety Sense provides a comprehensive collection of driver-assistance systems. The current Japanese specification includes Pre-Collision Safety, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, full-speed-range radar cruise control, Adaptive High Beam, Road Sign Assist and driver-abnormality response.

Higher equipment can also provide Toyota Teammate Advanced Park.

That system can assist with steering, acceleration, braking and gear selection during supported parking manoeuvres. Toyota even provides a remote function through a smartphone for compatible configurations.

There is also the practical side of EV ownership.

Remote climate control allows you to pre-condition the cabin, while connected services can provide charging and vehicle-status information.

The bZ4X therefore feels considerably more technologically advanced than older Toyota models.

However, equipment varies by market and grade.

A Japanese-market Z, a European bZ4X and a North American XLE/Limited are not necessarily equipped identically.

This matters in Bangladesh because reconditioned cars can come from different markets.

Check the actual VIN, specification and equipment rather than assuming every bZ4X has the same features.

The technology is one of the car's strongest arguments.

But remember: the best feature is still the electric powertrain.

Safety

One Of Its Strongest Areas

Safety is arguably one of the bZ4X's strongest selling points.

Toyota built the car around a modern EV platform with a battery pack integrated into the lower body structure, giving the vehicle a low centre of gravity and a substantial platform.

Then Toyota added a very comprehensive collection of electronic safety systems.

The current Japanese specification includes Pre-Collision Safety, active steering assistance, Front Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, radar cruise control, Adaptive High Beam and Road Sign Assist.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear-vehicle warning systems are also available.

There is ABS, Brake Assist, EBD, VSC, traction control, multiple airbags, ISOFIX and electronic parking equipment.

The bZ4X can also use Toyota Teammate Advanced Park on compatible versions, which assists with parking manoeuvres using cameras and sensors.

In real-world Bangladesh driving, these systems are particularly useful in congested environments.

Lane assistance can help on highways, collision-warning systems can provide another layer of protection in traffic and blind-spot monitoring is valuable when dealing with motorcycles that appear from seemingly nowhere.

But no ADAS system should be treated as a substitute for the driver.

Cameras and radar have limitations, especially in heavy rain, poor markings and unusual traffic conditions.

The bZ4X therefore provides an excellent collection of modern safety technology, but its systems should be regarded as assistance rather than autonomous driving.

That distinction matters.

The car can help.

You still have to drive it.

Driving Experience

Instant Torque Changes Everything

The bZ4X is one of those cars that makes conventional engine specifications seem slightly ridiculous. You do not wait for the engine to build revs. You press the accelerator and the electric motor responds immediately. The current Z FWD produces around 227 hp and 268 Nm, while the motor sends power directly through a single-speed eAxle. The result is smooth, immediate acceleration. There is no gearshift. There is no turbo lag. There is no engine screaming for permission to overtake. There is simply acceleration. The approximately 6.9-second 0–100 km/h time for the current Z FWD is quick enough to make ordinary traffic gaps disappear rather efficiently. But the real pleasure comes at low speed. In Dhaka traffic, the bZ4X is almost absurdly easy to drive. The steering is light, the electric motor is silent and regenerative braking can reduce the need to use the brake pedal constantly. The low centre of gravity also gives the car a planted feeling through corners. Ride comfort is generally good, although the heavier EV body means sharp potholes can still be felt. On highways, the bZ4X feels stable and quiet. Wind and tyre noise become much more noticeable than engine noise because there simply isn't an engine contributing to the conversation. Range is the major consideration. Heat, AC use, traffic and highway speed can reduce real-world range significantly compared with Toyota's Japanese WLTC figure. The current Z FWD is officially rated at up to 746 km WLTC, but Bangladesh users should plan around actual conditions rather than laboratory figures. The bZ4X therefore drives like the future should. Smoothly. Quietly. And with rather more acceleration than you expect from a Toyota family SUV.
EXPLORE THE RANGE

Variants

G And Z, With FWD And AWD Options

The latest Japanese bZ4X lineup is considerably simpler than many Toyota petrol models. There are two grade names: G and Z. The G is the FWD entry version and uses the smaller 57.7 kWh battery with a 124 kW motor. The Z is the higher grade and uses the larger 74.7 kWh battery. It is available with either FWD or 4WD. Toyota's latest Japanese specifications list the Z FWD at 227 PS and the Z 4WD with a combined output from its front and rear motors. The Z is therefore the version most likely to attract people looking for maximum range, stronger performance and additional equipment. However, Bangladesh's reconditioned market also contains cars from other markets, where grade names such as XLE and Limited may appear. Toyota's North American 2024 lineup, for example, used XLE and Limited rather than the Japanese G/Z naming system. So the grade name should always be interpreted according to the vehicle's original market. Overall, the bZ4X is a fundamentally different proposition from Toyota's familiar petrol and hybrid SUVs. You are not buying it because you want a 1.5-litre engine that does 15 km/L. You are buying it because you want a quiet, powerful electric SUV that can be charged at home, driven every day without petrol and equipped with a very substantial amount of modern safety technology. For Bangladesh, the biggest question is therefore not performance. The bZ4X has plenty. The biggest question is charging infrastructure. If you have reliable home charging, the bZ4X becomes a remarkably convenient daily vehicle. If you do not, the ownership experience becomes considerably more complicated. That one factor should determine whether this futuristic Toyota fits your actual life.
