Smooth Hybrid Performance
The Aqua G is not interested in pretending to be a sports car.
Its 116 PS hybrid system combines a 1.5L M15A-FXE three-cylinder engine with an electric motor and e-CVT. Toyota rates the petrol engine at 91 PS and 120 Nm, while the front electric motor produces up to 80 PS and 141 Nm.
The important part is how that power arrives.
The electric motor provides immediate response from low speeds, while the e-CVT keeps the power delivery exceptionally smooth.
Dhaka City Driving
This is where the Aqua G makes the most sense.
Stop. Move. Brake. Stop again. Move another three metres.
That is basically Dhaka traffic.
The hybrid system is comfortable with this sort of driving. Electric assistance at low speeds and regenerative braking make the car feel effortless in congestion.
The light steering and compact dimensions also make it easy to thread through crowded streets and park in tight spaces.
Highway Driving
Once the road opens up, the Aqua G becomes a competent highway cruiser.
It has enough performance for normal overtaking and highway travel, but it does not have the effortless high-speed punch of a larger 1.8L or 2.0L engine.
The car is happiest when driven smoothly and efficiently.
That is also when its hybrid character becomes most obvious: the drivetrain is quiet, relaxed and economical rather than aggressive.
Ride Comfort and Rough Roads
The suspension is well suited to normal paved roads, but the low ground clearance means rough Bangladesh roads require caution.
Large speed breakers should be crossed slowly, particularly with passengers and luggage.
For long-distance driving, the Aqua G is comfortable enough for regular trips between Dhaka and major cities, although the compact cabin and modest engine mean it is better thought of as an efficient commuter that can travel rather than a grand touring machine.
