βThe Yaris G Hybrid gets the features that actually matter in everyday driving without turning the car into a rolling electronics showroom. That is arguably one of its greatest strengths.
The hybrid system itself is the star feature. Toyota's 1.5L M15A-FXE engine works with an electric motor and e-CVT to deliver smooth low-speed operation and strong fuel efficiency. The system automatically switches between petrol and electric assistance according to driving conditions, making it particularly effective in city traffic.
Inside, the G grade receives a 7-inch TFT multi-information display, automatic climate control and cruise control. Depending on specification and options, the car can also have touchscreen infotainment, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports and wireless smartphone charging.
Toyota also provides smart entry and push-button starting on applicable G configurations, which are small conveniences that become surprisingly difficult to live without once you get used to them.
The G can also be equipped with additional safety and parking technology depending on specification. That includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and advanced parking assistance on applicable configurations.
What would improve it? More rear-seat ventilation, a larger boot and a more spacious rear cabin would make the Yaris significantly better for family use.
But the equipment balance is good. The G grade feels like the practical middle of the range rather than an artificially stripped-down version.
