Modern Toyota Safety, Not Just A Large Airbag Count
The latest Vellfire is equipped with a much more sophisticated safety package than older generations.
Toyota Safety Sense provides the main active-safety systems, including pre-collision technology, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane assistance, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition and adaptive high-beam assistance. Toyota's current safety documentation also highlights panoramic-view monitoring and additional parking assistance functions.
Blind-spot monitoring is particularly useful because the Vellfire is wide and long. Rear cross-traffic assistance is equally valuable when reversing from crowded parking areas.
The 360-degree panoramic-view monitor uses multiple cameras to create an overhead view of the vehicle. Toyota describes it as an aid for checking the surrounding area during low-speed manoeuvres.
Passive safety equipment includes multiple airbags, ABS, brake assist, EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, tyre-pressure monitoring and ISOFIX child-seat mounting.
The Vellfire's size also contributes to its sense of security. The long wheelbase gives the cabin a stable feel, while the substantial body provides a reassuring driving position.
However, no safety system replaces attentive driving. Bangladesh's motorcycles, pedestrians, sudden lane changes and poorly marked roads can defeat even sophisticated driver assistance if the driver stops paying attention.
The Vellfire therefore provides a strong technological safety package, but it still needs a careful human behind the wheel.
