Tacoma Hybrid's defining feature is the 326-hp i-FORCE MAX powertrain. Toyota combines a 2.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission. The result is 326 hp and 465 lb-ft, equivalent to approximately 630 Nm.
That torque makes the truck feel considerably more energetic than its size suggests. The electric motor supplies strong low-speed response, while the turbocharged engine takes over as speed builds. You do not need to floor the accelerator every time you want to overtake.
In Dhaka, however, the Tacoma's size matters more than its acceleration. It is wide, tall and long, and you will notice every centimetre when attempting to navigate a narrow lane beside a bus, rickshaw and CNG simultaneously.
The highway is where the truck makes considerably more sense. The high driving position, substantial suspension and strong torque make long-distance driving comfortable. The hybrid powertrain also performs better than you might expect for such a large vehicle.
Then comes rough terrain. Here the Tacoma stops pretending to be a lifestyle accessory and reveals the machinery underneath. Four-wheel drive, high clearance, low-range gearing, terrain modes, Crawl Control and locking differentials give it capabilities far beyond a normal crossover.
For Bangladesh, this makes the Tacoma Hybrid particularly interesting for long-distance travel, rural roads, hill areas and outdoor use.
It is not economical like an Axio. It is not compact like a Corolla. It is a serious truck that happens to have a hybrid powertrain.
