Compact SUV proportions with a clever footprint
The Toyota Raize Hybrid Z is small enough to make city driving easy but tall enough to look like an SUV rather than a hatchback that has wandered into a gym. At 3,995mm long, 1,695mm wide and 1,620mm high, it occupies very little road space while still giving occupants a useful elevated seating position.
Design and road presence
The Z grade adds 17-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting and more sophisticated exterior detailing, giving the little crossover a surprisingly substantial appearance. The front end has a broad, upright face, while the short overhangs and tall roof reinforce its SUV character.
For Bangladesh, the dimensions are arguably more important than the styling. Dhaka is not a place where owning a huge SUV automatically makes life easier. Quite the opposite. Narrow streets, crowded parking areas and constant traffic reward a vehicle that can change direction without requiring an engineering degree.
The 185mm ground clearance also provides useful protection against ordinary speed breakers and uneven entrances. It is not an off-roader, but it does not behave like a low sedan either.
The design is particularly successful because it looks larger than it actually is. From a distance, the Raize has enough visual bulk to appear substantial, yet from behind the wheel it remains remarkably manageable.
The Z's larger wheels do give the exterior a sportier appearance, although they also make poor roads slightly less forgiving.
Overall, the exterior is modern, practical and appropriately sized for Bangladesh. It gives buyers the SUV appearance they want without forcing them to live with the bulk of a much larger crossover.
