Exterior

The Toyota Kluger Hybrid looks like Toyota finally decided that the family SUV should have some personality.

The current XU70 is wide, muscular and considerably more sophisticated than the old Kluger generations. The front end uses slim LED lighting and a broad grille, while the side profile is clean and stretched rather than covered in unnecessary creases.

Then you notice the dimensions.

At 4,966mm long and 1,930mm wide, this is a seriously large SUV. In Bangladesh, that means excellent road presence but also a slightly complicated relationship with narrow Dhaka streets.

The approximately 207mm ground clearance is far more useful than the fashionable low-slung appearance of many crossovers. Speed breakers, broken road edges and uneven residential roads are handled with much less drama.

The hybrid version also gets AWD through Toyota's e-Four system, giving additional traction in rain and slippery conditions.

GX and GXL use 18-inch alloy wheels, while Grande gets 20-inch wheels. LED daytime running lights, LED headlamps, heated power mirrors and modern exterior detailing give the higher grades a properly premium appearance.

It is not a delicate vehicle.

It looks substantial, and that suits its job.

The problem is that Bangladesh has plenty of roads where substantial becomes inconvenient. A five-metre SUV can be magnificent on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway and mildly ridiculous in a lane designed for rickshaws.

Still, for families wanting a modern seven-seat Toyota with genuine road presence, the Kluger Hybrid's exterior is one of its strongest attractions.

Interior

The Kluger Hybrid's interior is built around one increasingly rare automotive luxury: space.

The first two rows are genuinely comfortable, while the second row can slide to balance passenger legroom and third-row access. The third row is useful, although it remains much better suited to children and shorter adults than six-foot passengers.

With all seven seats occupied, luggage capacity is around 241 litres. Fold the third row and it rises to approximately 552 litres, while folding both rear rows creates up to 1,150 litres of cargo capacity.

That makes the Kluger useful for actual family life rather than merely winning the seven-seat checkbox.

The dashboard is considerably more modern than previous generations. Depending on grade, the cabin gets an 8-inch or 12.3-inch touchscreen, digital instrumentation, smartphone connectivity and higher-grade comfort equipment.

GXL adds heated eight-way electric front seats, driver memory and power lumbar support, while Grande brings ventilated front seats and more premium trim.

The driving position is excellent. Visibility is good, the seats are supportive and the cabin feels properly insulated from outside noise.

The biggest weakness remains the third row.

It exists. It works. But it is not a private jet.

For Bangladesh families, however, the overall package is excellent. Seven people can travel comfortably enough, the AC system has to deal with a substantial cabin, and there is enough luggage flexibility for airport runs and long-distance trips.

This is exactly where the Kluger makes sense.

Features

The latest Kluger Hybrid has moved so far beyond the original Kluger that the two vehicles might as well be from different planets. The current GX already gets Toyota Safety Sense, smartphone connectivity, touchscreen infotainment, Bluetooth, USB ports, reversing camera, parking sensors and modern driver-assistance technology. Move to GXL and things become considerably more luxurious. The 12.3-inch touchscreen, satellite navigation, heated electric front seats, driver memory, power tailgate and tri-zone climate control make it feel like a genuinely premium family SUV. Grande goes further with an 11-speaker JBL audio system, head-up display, panoramic-view monitor, ventilated front seats, panoramic moonroof and hands-free power tailgate. The important thing for Bangladesh buyers is that these are useful features. A 360-degree-style panoramic camera helps when manoeuvring a nearly five-metre SUV through tight spaces. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make daily infotainment much easier. Adaptive cruise control is genuinely useful on highways. Blind-spot monitoring matters when changing lanes in dense traffic. The hybrid system itself is also a feature. There is no plug required. The battery is charged through the engine and regenerative braking, so the owner gets hybrid efficiency without needing home charging infrastructure. That makes the Kluger Hybrid particularly convenient for Bangladesh. The one caveat is import specification. CarHub should always distinguish factory equipment from aftermarket screens, cameras and accessories fitted after import.

Safety

This is where the latest Kluger Hybrid completely changes the conversation.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the current range and includes pre-collision safety, pedestrian and cyclist detection, intersection-turn assistance, emergency steering assist, road-sign assist, dynamic radar cruise control, lane-trace assist and lane-departure alert.

The vehicle also has seven airbags, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, stability control, traction control, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist and parking sensors.

For Bangladesh driving, some of these systems are especially valuable.

The blind-spot monitor is useful when motorcycles appear beside the vehicle.

Rear cross-traffic alert is helpful in crowded parking areas.

The reversing camera reduces the risk of missing pedestrians or objects behind the vehicle.

And adaptive cruise control can make long highway journeys much less tiring.

The Grande adds a panoramic-view monitor and head-up display, providing an even better view of the vehicle's surroundings and important driving information.

But none of this makes the Kluger autonomous.

The systems are driver assistance, not driver replacement. Weather, road markings, traffic behaviour and sensor limitations can affect their operation.

The underlying passive safety package is also strong, with seven airbags and a modern vehicle structure.

For a Bangladesh buyer moving from an older Kluger, Premio or conventional SUV, the safety technology represents one of the largest reasons to choose the latest hybrid.

It is not merely safer on paper.

It gives the driver considerably more information about what is happening around a very large vehicle.

Driving Experience

The clever thing about the Kluger Hybrid is that it makes a two-tonne SUV feel much less ridiculous than it should.

The 2.5-litre A25A-FXS Atkinson-cycle engine works with electric motors to produce 184kW combined, sending power to all four wheels through an e-CVT.

The first thing you notice is silence.

At low speeds, the electric motors can move the vehicle with barely any mechanical drama. Pull away from a traffic light and the Kluger simply glides forward.

That makes it particularly well suited to Dhaka traffic.

There is no traditional gear hunting, no turbo lag and no diesel clatter. The e-CVT keeps the powertrain smooth while the electric motors provide immediate response.

Then you press harder and the petrol engine joins in.

With around 250hp combined, the Kluger is not slow. The 0–100 km/h time is around 8.4 seconds, which is surprisingly brisk for a seven-seat SUV weighing more than two tonnes.

Toyota claims 5.6L/100km, approximately 17.9km/L, under laboratory testing. Real-world testing can be higher, and Bangladesh conditions will obviously vary.

For CarHub, 14–17 km/L combined is a sensible Bangladesh expectation.

The ride is comfortable, quiet and composed. AWD helps in rain and slippery conditions, while the 207mm clearance handles ordinary Bangladesh road abuse well.

It is not a Land Cruiser.

But that is not the point.

The Kluger Hybrid is designed to carry seven people quietly, comfortably and efficiently over long distances.

And at that job, it is remarkably convincing.

Variants

The current Toyota Kluger Hybrid range in Australia consists of GX, GXL and Grande, with the hybrid powertrain paired with AWD and an automatic CVT.

The GX is the entry point. It already gets the core hybrid AWD system, 18-inch alloy wheels, Toyota Safety Sense, seven airbags, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, reversing camera, parking sensors, smartphone connectivity and other essential equipment.

The GXL is the middle ground. It adds the equipment many family buyers actually want: larger 12.3-inch infotainment, navigation, heated electric front seats, driver memory, power tailgate, roof rails and additional comfort features.

The Grande is the luxury version.

It gets 20-inch wheels, premium interior appointments, ventilated front seats, an 11-speaker JBL system, head-up display, panoramic-view monitoring, panoramic moonroof and a hands-free power tailgate.

For Bangladesh, the grade choice depends heavily on import pricing.

GX is perfectly capable for buyers who primarily want the hybrid powertrain and safety package.

GXL is arguably the most practical specification for someone wanting premium family comfort without chasing every luxury feature.

Grande is for buyers who want the complete Kluger experience and are comfortable paying considerably more.

One important point for CarHub is that the Kluger Hybrid is sold as the Toyota Highlander Hybrid in several other markets. Therefore, imported vehicles may arrive wearing different market naming or specification packages.

The underlying XU70 platform and 2.5L hybrid powertrain are what matter when identifying the vehicle.

Overall, the latest Kluger Hybrid is a significant evolution.

It keeps the things people expect from a Toyota family SUV—space, reliability, comfort and practicality—while adding hybrid efficiency and genuinely modern safety technology.

For Bangladesh, that combination makes much more sense than the old V6 Kluger.

The only problem is that Toyota has also made it considerably more expensive.
