The GR86 RZ has one of those designs that does not need a giant badge screaming “SPORT” at you. The proportions do the shouting.
At 4,265mm long, 1,775mm wide and only 1,310mm tall, it has the classic proportions of a proper sports coupe: long bonnet, low roof, short rear deck and a planted stance. Toyota kept the shape relatively clean rather than covering it in aerodynamic furniture.
The RZ looks particularly convincing with its 18-inch alloy wheels and 215/40R18 tyres. The wide stance, sharp headlights and sculpted front bumper make it look considerably more expensive than the badge suggests.
There is also a wonderfully old-fashioned quality here. This is a two-door coupe with a long bonnet, rear-wheel drive and a naturally aspirated engine. In an automotive world increasingly obsessed with batteries, screens and enormous SUVs, the GR86 feels almost rebellious.
Bangladesh does provide one minor complication.
The ground clearance is only 130mm.
That means the speed breaker outside your local shopping centre has effectively become part of the car's suspension development programme. Potholes and broken road edges require care, particularly with the low-profile 18-inch tyres.
The rear design is neat rather than extravagant, with integrated spoiler treatment, dual exhausts and LED rear lamps.
Overall, the GR86 RZ looks exactly as a lightweight sports coupe should look.
It is low, wide, compact and purposeful.
And importantly, it looks fast without looking ridiculous.
