The useful kind of clever
The GR Corolla RZ has a fascinating feature philosophy. Toyota could have spent the development budget giving it massage seats and seventeen different ambient-light colours. Instead, it gave the car equipment that helps it move quickly.
The star is the GR-FOUR AWD system. The driver can select different torque distributions, allowing the car to behave differently depending on the road and driving situation. Combined with front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials, the system gives the RZ remarkable traction and corner-exit ability.
Then there is the six-speed intelligent manual transmission. The iMT system can assist with rev matching, making aggressive downshifts smoother without removing the driver's involvement.
The 12.3-inch TFT driver display is genuinely useful, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make the infotainment system perfectly acceptable for modern Bangladesh usage. The available JBL system is also worthwhile for buyers who care about audio quality. Toyota's Japanese documentation confirms both six-speaker standard audio and an optional JBL package.
Other useful equipment includes automatic climate control, smart entry, push-button start, USB connectivity, power windows and cruise control.
What is missing? A sunroof, electric seats, ventilated seats, hands-free tailgate and several luxury conveniences.
And frankly, good.
A sunroof does not make you faster.
Neither does a heated rear seat.
The RZ's best features are underneath the skin: AWD, LSDs, performance brakes, reinforced chassis components, a close-ratio manual gearbox and a turbocharged three-cylinder engine.
That is exactly how a driver's car should spend its money.
