Exterior

Big, imposing and deliberately rugged

The Fortuner has never been shy about its intentions.

It does not want to blend into the traffic like a Fielder. It wants the traffic to move around it.

The tall bonnet, large grille, high ride height and muscular wheel arches give the SUV exactly the kind of road presence Bangladeshi buyers have traditionally wanted from a premium Toyota SUV. It looks expensive, substantial and capable, even when it is doing absolutely nothing more adventurous than sitting outside a shopping mall.

The current-generation design is sharper than the older Fortuners, with slimmer lighting, more aggressive bumpers and stronger shoulder lines. Legender versions go considerably further, replacing the conventional rugged appearance with something more sophisticated and almost Lexus-like.

The dimensions are substantial: roughly 4.8 metres long and 1.85 metres wide. That gives occupants useful space, but it also explains why driving one through a narrow Dhaka lane requires a little confidence.

Ground clearance is one of the genuine advantages. The Fortuner sits high enough to deal with broken roads, speed bumps, flooded streets and rough rural surfaces far better than a normal sedan.

Large 18-inch wheels on high grades add visual drama, although they can also make the ride firmer.

The exterior's greatest success is that it looks like it can actually do something.

Many modern SUVs look aggressive but are essentially giant shopping bags.

The Fortuner has genuine 4WD hardware, a ladder-frame foundation and serious ground clearance.

In Bangladesh, that distinction matters. For more visual detail, open the detailed image gallery. The full specifications and features gives the key dimensions and exterior equipment in one place. Toyota Fortuner stands out through the combination of its proportions, lighting and wheel package, which matter when choosing a car you will see every day.

Interior

Spacious, durable and slightly underwhelming

The Fortuner's cabin gives you exactly what you expect from a Toyota SUV — sensible controls, plenty of physical buttons and a feeling that everything has been built to survive a long time.

The driving position is excellent. You sit high above traffic, which is particularly useful in Bangladesh where seeing over smaller cars can make manoeuvring considerably easier.

The first two rows offer good space, and the seven-seat layout makes the Fortuner a genuine family vehicle rather than a token seven-seater. The third row, however, is not a miracle of packaging. Children will be happy there; large adults will eventually begin questioning your friendship.

Material quality depends on grade. Standard versions are fairly utilitarian, while Legender and GR Sport versions add leather upholstery, better trim and more premium detailing.

The biggest weakness is value.

When a Fortuner costs considerably more than many competitors, buyers naturally expect a luxury interior. It isn't. The dashboard is functional rather than lavish, and some plastics feel surprisingly ordinary for such an expensive SUV.

The good news is durability.

This is the sort of cabin that tolerates Bangladeshi family life. Dust, luggage, children, frequent use and long journeys are unlikely to terrify it.

The rear AC vents are particularly useful in Bangladesh's hot climate, while the large cabin and elevated seating position make long-distance journeys comfortable.

It isn't a luxury lounge.

It is a very durable family command centre.

And that has its own appeal.

Features

Useful equipment, with grade-dependent upgrades

The Fortuner's feature list depends enormously on which one you buy.

Basic versions concentrate on the essentials: air-conditioning, power windows, keyless entry, push-button start, touchscreen audio, USB connectivity and the usual convenience equipment.

Move into the 2.8L diesel, Legender or GR Sport and things become much more interesting.

Leather seats, powered seats, automatic climate control, LED lighting, cruise control, parking sensors, power tailgate, larger infotainment systems and additional off-road controls can appear depending on the grade.

The 4WD system is itself one of the Fortuner's most important features. On appropriate versions, H2, H4 and L4 modes give the driver genuine control over traction rather than the decorative “AWD” badge found on many urban SUVs.

Hill-start assist and downhill assist are particularly useful when driving on steep or slippery terrain.

The infotainment situation is reasonable but not exceptional. Modern versions offer Bluetooth, touchscreen functionality and smartphone connectivity depending on market and grade. Older Fortuners, however, can have noticeably outdated factory systems.

Bangladesh buyers often solve this with aftermarket Android units.

That is perfectly sensible, but CarHub should distinguish factory equipment from aftermarket equipment.

The Fortuner also has something more important than a giant screen: a proper ladder-frame chassis, substantial ground clearance and strong diesel torque.

If your idea of an SUV is simply a high seating position, you can buy something cheaper.

If you actually want an SUV that can leave the pavement, the Fortuner's feature list starts making considerably more sense.

Safety

Strong fundamentals, but specification matters

The Fortuner has a solid safety foundation, although exact equipment depends on generation and grade.

ABS, Brake Assist, EBD, vehicle stability control and traction control are available on modern versions, while higher-grade 4WD models add hill-start assist, downhill assist and additional traction management.

Multiple airbags are also available, including side and curtain airbags on relevant configurations.

The high driving position is another practical advantage. It gives the driver excellent visibility over surrounding traffic, although the vehicle's sheer size means parking sensors and cameras are particularly useful.

Higher grades can add clearance sonar, rear cameras and 360-degree camera systems.

The Fortuner's biggest safety advantage, however, is not electronic.

It is its underlying construction.

The ladder-frame platform is designed to handle rough terrain and heavy-duty use, and the high ground clearance provides useful separation from poor road surfaces.

But buyers should not confuse rugged construction with invincibility.

A heavily accident-damaged Fortuner can still be a dangerous vehicle. Bangladesh's used market therefore requires careful inspection of chassis alignment, airbags, suspension and repair quality.

ADAS availability is also grade-specific. Some newer high-spec versions provide forward-collision protection, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise and other assistance systems, while older or lower-spec Fortuners do not.

Therefore, CarHub should never mark every Fortuner as having the same ADAS package.

Overall, the Fortuner is reassuring because it combines conventional Toyota safety engineering with modern electronic assistance on newer grades.

It is robust, but it still needs a careful owner. For the complete equipment breakdown, see the full safety review and the full specifications and features. The full features review puts the safety kit alongside the rest of the vehicle's technology, while the driving experience review explains how the car behaves on the road. Driving Experience

Driving Experience

The Toyota Fortuner default uses petrol power with an automatic transmission and FWD drive, giving it a clear mechanical character. The 2,700cc toyota gasoline/diesel engine setup is central to the way it performs. Output is listed at 165 hp with 272 Nm of torque. The listed mileage is 9.50 km/L combined, which matters for everyday running costs. Its recorded 0–100 km/h time is 11 seconds. Top speed is 190 km/h. With 180 mm of ground clearance, it also has useful relevance for speed breakers and uneven Bangladesh roads. The key is how easily the car combines response, comfort and control in normal traffic. The driving experience review explains the road-going character in more detail. Use the full specifications and features for the numbers behind it. When choosing between similarly priced cars, Mazda 3 gives you a direct alternative. The Toyota Fortuner default deserves attention for the complete mix of performance, efficiency and everyday usability rather than horsepower alone. That is what matters in real daily driving.
EXPLORE THE RANGE

Variants

From sensible petrol to serious diesel

The Fortuner range is broad enough that saying “which Fortuner is best?” without knowing the buyer is almost useless.

The 2.7L petrol is the sensible entry point. It is smoother and generally simpler, making it appropriate for buyers who primarily drive in cities and want the Fortuner's size, seating and road presence without paying for the diesel's additional hardware.

The 2.4L diesel is a stronger all-rounder, offering considerably more torque and better efficiency than the petrol while remaining less expensive than the 2.8L.

The 2.8L diesel 4x4 is the version I would choose for serious Bangladesh use. It delivers around 500 Nm, has proper 4WD hardware and makes the large SUV feel substantially more relaxed when fully loaded.

Then there is the Legender.

It takes the Fortuner formula and adds more sophisticated styling, premium equipment and a more upscale cabin. It is the choice for someone who wants the Fortuner's mechanical strengths without looking quite so agricultural.

Finally, the GR Sport is aimed at buyers who want the most aggressive appearance and sportier hardware.

For Bangladesh, my recommendation is straightforward.

If budget matters most, buy a clean petrol Fortuner.

If long-distance driving and fuel economy matter, consider the diesel.

If you regularly carry people, travel outside major cities or encounter rough roads, the 2.8L diesel 4x4 is the sweet spot.

If you want luxury and status, buy the Legender.

Whatever the grade, condition remains king.

A well-maintained basic Fortuner beats a neglected flagship every single time.
